Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church is the
oldest African-American church in Saginaw, Michigan. Bethel
A.M.E. Church was founded in 1867 by the following six individuals:
Mr. & Mrs. Allen Ford, Mr. & Mrs. William Peterson,
Mrs. Groms and Mrs. Margaret Van Dyke. These Christians, who
had a desire to fellowship together, met in the home of Mr.
& Mrs. Allen Ford on North 4th Street in the city of Saginaw.
And today, this same desire still exist in the hearts and
minds of our Church Family. "BETHEL",
which means "HOUSE OF GOD" in Hebrew,
is defined as a place where God is worshipped; a holy place. And
this is just what you will experience at our church; a Holy
place where the Spirit of God rests, rules and abides!!!
The Mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed. At every level of the Connection and in every local church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society, out of which the A.M.E. Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and serve the needy. The Mission of Bethel A.M.E. Church is to bring people to God through praise, thanksgiving, personal, public, and private adoration in worship; witness, and the winning of souls that have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us through the professed and demonstrated love of Jesus Christ. We at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church are truly a blessed and highly-favored people that believe in the unquestionable and magnificent power of total praise, worship and giving of our time and talents in the service of the Lord.
In June of 1997, Pastor P. David Saunders, Sr. was assigned to lead Bethel into the new millennium. With his steadfast belief that "LOVE CONQUERS ALL", Pastor Saunders encourages all congregants to express the love of Christ in their everyday activities. The Bethel Family will always continue to follow God's lead and strive to do the work of the Lord by encouraging people everywhere to seek the Lord and the saving grace that only He can endow. For we know and believe that when praises go up, blessings definitely come down!
We are a people of praise that believe in and depend upon
the awesome power of the Holy Spirit! And you are invited,
encouraged and welcomed to join us and get YOUR
moving and mind-blowing worship experience with us during
our Sunday Praise and Worship Services that are held every
Sunday at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. If you feel the need to cast
your cares upon Him or let out your praise during the week,
we invite you to join us at our Mid-Week Prayer Service, which
is held each Wednesday at 7:00 PM. II Timothy 2:15 says to
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God..." and
the Pastor's Weekly Bible Study occurs every Tuesday at 6:45
PM. This bible study class offers all an opportunity to learn
more about God and His Holy word.
Again, Welcome to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where we truly believe, "LOVE CONQUERS ALL!"
